The Strength in Rest: Living with a Chronic Condition

Having a chronic condition means some days, even the simplest tasks feel out of reach. It can take so much from you---your energy, your independence, your sense of control. You want to push through, to keep going, but sometimes your body simply says, not today.

When your body is too weak to move, and even lifting your arm feels impossible---rest.

When your legs are overcome with pain, numbness, or unbearable tightness---listen to your body and rest.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) has forced me to slow down these past few days, and while it's scary to feel like I have no control, I remind myself that I’m not in this fight alone. In just a few months, it’ll be eight years with MS, and I’ve made it this far not by my strength, but by God’s.

I know how easy it is to feel guilty for resting. We live in a world that glorifies productivity, where rest is often mistaken for weakness. But the truth is, resting is one of the strongest things we can do. It allows our bodies to heal, our minds to reset, and our spirits to regain the strength we need to keep going.

If you’re in a similar place, I want to remind you that it's okay to pause. Rest isn’t giving up, it's part of the journey.

How do you remind yourself that rest is necessary and not a sign of weakness? Lets encourage each other in the comments.
